From first sketch to finished embroidery

Every embroidery design begins as an idea that does not yet need to be perfect. A loose pencil sketch is enough to find the main shapes and overall movement.

Simplify the drawing

Remove details that will not translate well into thread. Decide which lines need outlines, which shapes need filling, and where the fabric should remain visible.

Test before committing

Transfer the design to fabric, then stitch a small sample to check thread weight, color, and texture. Adjusting one sample is easier than unpicking a finished section.

Finish with care

When the stitching is complete, gently clean away transfer marks, press from the reverse, and frame the work with even tension. The finished piece will still carry traces of the first sketch—and that is part of its charm.
